Are you prepared in the event of a disaster in your area? The Cascades Region of the American Red Cross is hosting the first-ever Camp Prepare this Saturday.

Camp Prepare will give participants the chance to experience what it is like to camp outside with only the contents of a disaster preparedness kit.

The American Red Cascades Region, which spans Oregon and Southwest Washington, invites participants to camp out in their backyard or nearby park on Saturday, August 16 using only the contents of a disaster preparedness kit that they prepare.

The event will help families, businesses, school groups and individuals to learn what it is like to survive without the comforts of electricity, running water or technology (with the exception of the Red Cross apps) in a fun, safe setting.

Participation is free but organizers encourage that all participants register online. By registering, you will get information and tips from the American Red Cross, as well as a chance to win prizes. Registration will be open up until the day of the event.

If you don’t have a preparedness kit yet, find out what are the most important items to include, according to the American Red Cross.
